Linux has intrigued me ever since news headlines began proclaiming its advantages over Windows. Within the past few months, I've seriously been considering replacing Windows on my laptop with Linux, but have hit three serious barriers: application slowness, time consuming installations, and dependency headaches.

In making the decision to switch, obvious factors such as cost and a general dissatisfaction with the Microsoft monopoly would surely play major roles. There are countless individuals out there who, like me, would like to put Linux on their aging hardware.

New computers are expensive, and it becomes a very attractive proposition to keep the same hardware and load a free operating system onto it."
