Business Case of the Week
Xerox chooses Mandrake Linux/Caldera Graphics to optimize enterprise
Xerox announced that it has selected Mandrake Linux for its XES (Xerox
Engineering Systems) department, and will deploy Mandrake Linux for
customers and clients who are interested in digital printing solutions
based on the Caldera Graphics RIP. Almost 160 servers, 95% of the
computer farm used by Xerox's Graphic Arts department, run on the
combination Mandrake Linux/Caldera Graphics RIP.

X2 technology is the fastest on the market, providing high-volume
production with costs that are 30% to 40% less than those offered by
other digital products. The choice of Mandrake Linux enables Graphic
Arts providers to handle client file formats created on any operating
system, whether Mac or PC based.

What's Cookin' at MandrakeSoft?
Cooker Snapshot ISOs.
MandrakeSoft developers released a snapshot of Cooker on Friday, June
7th. If you have an extra machine to test this latest development
release, two ISO images are available for downloading:

The images are approx. 700MBs each, so be sure to burn them with 80MIN
700MB CD-Rs.

The developers are particularly interested in receiving feedback
- if the 700MB ISOs cause any problems
- if isolinux boots OK
(if you have a laptop, try to boot and report the results)
- KDE3
- the latest kernel

Please note:
- X is likely to have some troubles with i8XX motherboards.
- The default compiler is now gcc 3.1

The files can be downloaded from the usual FTP sites, just look for the
/mandrake-iso/i586/ directory. Please report your results and
observations to the Cooker mailing list.

PPC News
8.2 PPC Supplemental Goodies.
Ben Reser is at it again -- this time he has built all the 8.2 PPC RPMs
that were not included in the official ISOs (due to space limitations)
and has them available via urpmi/rpmdrake from his his mirror.

He asks that everyone be respectful of the bandwidth since it is a
personal site. Read the announcement here.

MandrakeSoft's Stew Benedict has added two new packages for
MandrakeClub members that will automatically download and install the
PPC version of Blackdown's Java IDE & SDK -- available now in the download area.

Mozilla includes an advanced, standards-compliant web browser, email
reader and chat client.

"The release of Mozilla 1.0 represents a huge milestone for the free
software community. From browser technology to software development
tools, the Mozilla project has had an enormous impact on open source
development," said Nat Friedman, Vice President of Product Development
at Ximian Inc.

New unsupported packages of Mozilla 1.0 (and dependencies) for Mandrake
Linux 8.2 are available at:

What's New at
Tom Berger reports:
"Just added Kevin McCormicks article on Connecting A LAN Via Dial-up.
Revised my portion of the article on Samba (Printer friendly version).
Complete rewrite, adoptions to Samba 2.2.3, Mandrake Linux 8.2. Better
focused on actually getting basic things to work. There's more than
enough documentation on the advanced features of Samba already. Added
Installing php-cgiwrap by Jeff Bert."

This Week's Survey
The Mandrake printed manuals are:

 * The reason to buy a distribution.
 * Waste of paper, online version is enough.
 * A shame.
 * Who needs manuals?
