"TM: First off, I think our members would love to know a little about your history with GNU/Linux. How did you get started with this OS?

"RV: It's actually a rather short history. Though I had a few friends using Linux, I hadn't used it myself until I came to work for Linux Journal in August 2000. At that time the magazine felt they had the technical expertise they needed and was looking for someone with more publishing and editing experience. I came from a humanities/academic background and had served in various positions with a few academic journals. Since I've started working for Linux Journal though, I haven't used anything else (except for the occasional maintenance on my wife's Windows machine). I'm lucky in that most of the people with whom I correspond now are using Linux as well, so about the only .doc files I get are from PR people..."
