La Junta de Andalucia, the Andalusian Regional Government, has
officially announced a new law whose principal objuective is to
give the population the opportunity to use free software.
The article is an English translation of a piece that details
the new law in this region of southern Spain.
"All public educational centre necessities are intended to be
fulfilled, first of all, with Free Software. At least, all software
development carried out by 'La Junta de Andalucia' or any official
educational entity should by developed in such a way. It is
compulsory to all hardware acquired by official educational centres
to be fully compatible with Free Software operating systems.
Furthermore, it must be preinstalled in all new bought computers.
In addition, all official Internet access points must be equipped
with this kind of software..."
