"Microsoft has hit back at the Democrat's push to get open source preference legislation through the South Australian Parliament, warning the bills would restrict 'freedom of choice.'

"Buying into the debate for the first time, Microsoft managing director Steve Vamos admitted the software giant had 'a lot at stake' in the the legislative push.

"'For Microsoft to have got where its got has required innovation, risk-taking and great salesmanship and marketing,' he said.

"'I have a problem that any player should get (legislative) support.

"'It moves away from market forces to a model supported by non-market factors...'"
