"Microsoft Corp.'s delay of its next version of Windows has further tightened the chests of people concerned about the oncoming train of Linux, which is steadily but slowly creeping up on the desktop.

"Longhorn, the code name for the new version of Windows, has been delayed until 2006. But rumblings last week from Microsoft suggest it may need even longer to deliver a new operating system.

"The delay means Microsoft must hold on to its user base for another two or three years to avoid more losses to Linux..."
