"Duane Groth, known to wireless enthusiasts as admin of the Sydney Wireless list, has launched an enum-based lookup service aimed at VoIP users.

"Himself a user of the open source Asterisk IP telephony server, he says the new server is designed to let calls to PSTN numbers originate on the Internet and, if the owner of the called number has registered that number as available over VoIP, allow the call to complete without having to cross into the PSTN.

"It is not a network-specific service, as is common in much of the VoIP world..."
