"Freedom
Open source is about freedom and transparency. Freedom to learn,
freedom to change, freedom to distribute, freedom to improve.
People who have less money get equal changes with open source,
everybody can learn from the source, everyone can install and use
it on old hardware. This gives changes to people who wouldn't have
this changes in any other way. That's cool!
"By supporting closed source operating systems, you support the
system behind it. Proprietary protocols, closed standards limited
to one provider, you name it!
"transparency
Linux is transparent and that makes it possible to know what it's
doing, how do you know nobody's watching your every move? In Linux
you have the source, so you can study it. How can you ever know
what your system is really sharing with the rest of the world if
the source isn't available?"
