Novatel's MiFi Router Gets Smarter, with Apps

"The first MiFi apps will let the device act as a shared network drive, negotiate VPNs and upload photos. Currently available in bothVerizon Wireless and Sprint versions, the MiFi is a credit-card-sized router which translates cellular 3G signal into a Wi-Fi bubble, so Wi-Fi computers and gadgets can get online anywhere.

"The apps come as part of the MiFi Developer Program, a very selective partner program where Novatel is picking around 10 developers to produce official apps which will then be approved by the MiFi's wireless carriers, Novatel chief marketing officer Rob Hadley said."
