"Ubuntu 10.04 LTS has already pulled in X.Org 7.5 with
X Server 1.7 and other updated graphics packages along with the
Linux 2.6.32 kernel that it will be using in the final build, which
already presents some core differences from the current stable
release, Ubuntu 9.10.
"For these early benchmarks of Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" we just
compared its desktop performance to that of Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic
Koala" using the x86_64 versions. On the Lucid side, we were using
a daily snapshot from 2009-12-08, which should be nearly the same
as Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 1 that is scheduled for release tomorrow.
This build of Ubuntu 10.04 (x86_64) was running with the Linux
2.6.32 kernel, GNOME 2.29.3, X Server 1.7.2, xf86-video-radeon
6.12.99, Mesa 7.6.1~rc2, GCC 4.4.2, and continues using the default
EXT4 file-system. These software packages are in comparison to the
Linux 2.6.31 kernel, GNOME 2.28.1, X Server 1.6.4,
xf86-video-radeon 6.12.99, Mesa 7.6, and GCC 4.4.1 with Ubuntu
