Washing the windows myths. Program installation.

"I would have thought that this issue had been dead and buried however, unfortunately there are still those out there who believe that installing software is easier under windows than under Linux. Let me tell you right now, it is not! It is far more involved installing programs under windows than it is installing the equivalent programs under Linux.

"Lets start from the beginning. Although I don't like to assume because it makes an ass out of u and me I will have to in this exercise to illustrate my point. Person A whom we shall call Arthur buys a computer with windows installed. This windows computer, as delivered from the shop does not do much. So Arthur decides to install some programs to make his computer more usable as he is writing a book about his travels. We will get back to Arthur later.

"At the other end of the scale there is person Z, Lets call him Zaphod. Zaphod, according to his own description is a smart, witty and cool guy. Not wanting to be run of the mill, Zaphod buys a computer with Linux installed. On unpacking the box Zaphod finds that he has all that he needs to run his business of such complexity that Zaphod wishes he had two heads."
