"Smartphone sales will continue to exceed even the most
optimistic expectations this year, according to the latest industry
forecast by IT researcher IDC.
"IDC's latest data shows total shipments in 2010 now pegged to
check in somewhere north of 270 million units. If the researcher is
right, total smartphone sales for the year will increase by a
little more than 55 percent from the 173.5 million units sold last
year.
"This latest revised forecast represents a 10 percent hike from
IDC's original estimate of 45 percent growth for the year.
"And it will be smartphone vendors such as Motorola (NYSE: MOT),
HTC and Samsung running Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android mobile
operating system that will be raking in the most cash in the near
future."
