Re-Imagining Linux Platforms to Meet the Needs of Cloud Service Providers
"Scientific Linux is a distribution built from the source code
of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Though often considered a clone
of RHEL, Scientific Linux makes adjustments to upstream packages
and the configuration which give it a personality of its own, one
which comes across as more desktop-friendly.
The project's name sometimes confuses people as the distribution
doesn't come with a collection of scientific software. Rather the
name is derived from the labs which build Scientific Linux, not,
strictly speaking, its function.
