BW: Larry Ellison’s Internet Appliance Now for Sale to Consumers Nationwide – With Free Net Access

“Today, Oracle Corporation Chairman Larry Ellison and the NIC
Company CEO Gina Smith unveiled their new online store to sell the
NIC, a $199 Internet appliance, to consumers nationwide. The NIC
includes NetZero (NASDAQ: NZRO), a leading provider of free
Internet access with more than 4 million registered users.”

“We’re the only Internet Appliance that doesn’t tie you down
to a single ISP,” adds NIC CEO Smith. “You can sign with NetZero
for free Internet access, or use an account you already have with
other popular ISPs such as AT&T Worldnet, Mindspring, and
Earthlink. No other Internet appliance offers this kind of
choice.”
The NIC Company also announced today that the NIC
will operate with a full-range of popular plug-ins, allowing users
to view websites featuring Real Player, Java, Flash and
Shockwave.”

“The NIC is also ultimately reliable,” adds Smith. “Because it
doesn’t require a hard disk, NIC users are immune to costly
configuration foul-ups and viruses. And because the NIC’s Linux
operating system is stored safely on a CD, operating system
upgrades are simply a matter of sliding in a new disk.”
