“Given the huge rises in Linux companies’ shares in 1999, we can
expect about 10 initial public offerings from open-source companies
this year, says Mike Kwatinetz, head of technology research at
Credit Suisse First Boston.”
“There are currently a pair of Linux companies — LinuxOne and
Linuxcare — with the paperwork filed to come public, said David
Menlow, president of IPOFinancial.com. CSFB is leading the
Linuxcare offering, which aims at raising $92 million for the
14-month-old company.”
“On the other hand, analysts hike an eyebrow at the pending
LinuxOne offering. The one-year-old company, which had no sales in
the first nine months of its life, said in its latest SEC filing
that it has had to “scale back operations.” The relatively
unknown regional brokerage Capital West Securities is set to lead
the offering.”
