CRN: Linux Vendors Move To Enlist Distributors To Expand Market

“With the majority of their Linux operating system sales still
moving through the retail channel, Linux vendors are looking to
distributors to provide a link to corporate computing environments
through VARs.

“Vendors such as Red Hat Inc. and Caldera Systems Inc. are
beefing up distribution strategies as the demand for Linux
increases among emerging market segments, including e-business and
ASPs.”

“The majority of our sales right now are in retail, but we’re
becoming stronger on the business side because of the move into
e-business,” said Royce Bybee, vice president of sales at Caldera,
Orem, Utah.”
