week when its leading supplier, Red Hat Inc., acquired Planned
Technologies Inc., a network business consulting firm, in a $47
million stock deal.”
“The move adds about 200 engineers to Red Hat’s payroll and
increases the company’s size by about 40 percent. Moreover,
analysts said, it provides the strongest sign yet that Linux is
moving from its current stronghold in infrastructure applications
to the enterprise market.“
“This kind of acquisition is what’s needed to take Linux up the
food chain and into the enterprise computing room,” said Dan
Kusnetzky, vice president of systems software research at
International Data Corp. (Framingham, Mass.).”
