eWeek: Crusoe ready to sail – Notebook debut of Transmeta’s new mobile chip raises hopes, questions

“Crusoe, a new mobile processor from Silicon Valley upstart
Transmeta Inc., will make its first public appearance at PC Expo in
New York this week in several notebook prototypes from major
OEMs.”

relationships and herald its energy-efficient TM5400 processor as
the ideal chip for notebooks, but some industry observers hold out
little hope that the company will be able to break into the
lucrative corporate notebook market.

“Instead, they said, Transmeta will most likely find success in
the emerging Internet appliance market, where the Santa Clara,
Calif., company has already secured a major contract to power an
America Online Inc. appliance being developed by Gateway Inc.”
