Hewlett-Packard and RealNetworks have decided to team up to
develop a set of digital entertainment products and services that
are planned to be introduced later this year. The products
apparently will enable consumers to download and personalize music,
streaming video and other digital content from the comfort of their
living rooms.
HP will bring its consumer technology product experience to the
relationship, in addition to its extensive customer base.
RealNetworks will provide a Linux-based software platform
incorporating RealPlayer and RealJukebox.
HP President of Consumer Business Pradeep Jotwani believes that
the consumer demand for such products stems from the convergence of
computing and entertainment. “As the computing and entertainment
worlds converge, consumers are looking for ways to enhance their
entertainment experiences,” says Jotwani.
For RealNetworks, the relationship with HP advances the
company’s commitment to extend to Internet appliances and other
wireless devices.
“By expanding our relationship with HP, we believe we can build
a universal entertainment base for use in delivering a quality
Internet media experience to nearly any room in the home,” says Len
Jordan, senior vice president, Consumer Appliances,
RealNetworks.
