Think of a friendly, open Microsoft. That’s what we’re
building here….

“There is nothing new about mergers between computer industry
players with substantial histories as publicly traded companies. In
the Linux world, however, it just hasn’t been in the script. Common
wisdom always cast Corel and Inprise as bait, not sharks. Time will
tell, but the two do suddenly seem to dealing from positions of
strength. More significantly, they are now moving into position to
make good on the promise of a Linux desktop that is truly
competitive – as well as compatible – with Microsoft’s.”

“This will very likely put Corel in the favorite’s position both
with desktop customers (especially in enterprises) and the growing
development community that brings new software into the world. No
small achievement, if they can pull it off. Given both companies’
histories of adversity survival, the chances look good.”
