Linux-Mandrake 8.0 Beta 1 “Traktopel” is available

Interested in kernel 2.4.2, in KDE 2.1, in latest GNOME and
Nautilus or just eager to install the latest Linux-Mandrake? We are
proud to announce that all of this and much more is in the first
Beta release of Linux-Madrake 8.0. Here is a quick overview of the
main features:

USER INTERFACES

KDE 2.1 Release 8.0 Beta includes
the latest version of KDE (2.1), featuring a long list of
enhancements to the 2.0 release. Most important are enhancements to
Konqueror, the multi-purpose file manager and fast Web Browser,
KMail a full featured mail program, kicker, that taskbar,… Read

GNOME, Nautilus and Evolution Gnome
environment now comes with Nautilus, an innovative file manager on
which you can find information here Evolution, a complete
groupware suite is also available and will let you manage you
e-mail, contacts and appointments in a single unified
environment

KERNEL, XFree86 and misc. Yes, we
now have Kernel 2.4.2 as the default kernel. Among many new
features, you will get wider USB support, better SMP (Symetric
MultiProcessing Support), brand new IP and firewalling stacks,…
If you want to keep a 2.2 kernel, we also have a 2.2.18 kernel
included. XFree86 is delivered in version 4.02 with support for the
latest video cards. You can get a full list on XFree86 site .
Our RPM system is now RPM 4.0. It will give you compatibiity with
the latest RedHat packages and retain compatibility with the older
ones.

LINUX-MANDRAKE INSTALLER

  • Expert or Automated
  • Expert and customized modes have now been merged to
    make the installer easier to use and understand.

  • OEM Installation mode
  • If you have to set-up multiple machines, you now can
    use our OEM instlallation method to install Linux-Mandrake in
    minutes and almost without any user intervention. It will even keep
    you Windows partitions if ever you happen to have one.

Our last killer feature, you now can view beautiful
Traktopels pictures while files are being copied 😉

LINUX-MANDRAKE CONTROL CENTER

All our tools are now centralized in a single and
soon unified environment. From this place, you will be able to
easily do tasks such as configuring your network or a printer.
