“Celebrating Linux and U.S. Independence, the GeekCast.Com
Network announced Tuesday that its Penguinista DSL Project is
stretching across five states, and snaking through 59 metro-area
markets. Jeff Gerhardt, GeekCast.Com Networks’ CEO, said that
celebrating Open Source freedom and the birth of a nation go
flipper in flipper.”

“Linux-friendly Internet service is just the tip of the
iceberg as far as Gerhardt’s community efforts are concerned.
Gerhardt also leads the Benevolent Penguin Society (BPS)
,
coordinating efforts among business concerns, Linux advocacy and
improving educational opportunities for kids. “The BPS was
originally created in partnership with Pinnacle Internet, an
Illinois ISP,” said Gerhardt. “The main function of the
organization is [to be] an administrative vehicle by which the
developers, GeekCast and Pinnacle, can do ‘good works’ for the
Linux Community and the greater community at large.”

“According to Gerhardt, the successful service deployments are
good for business and for Linux enthusiasts. “The BPS was created
for the purpose of raising funding for good works for or on the
behalf of the greater Linux community. Two low-income urban schools
are already connected to the Internet because of BPS.”
