“Will MS die out? Yes, eventually, but I certainly won’t hold my
breath while waiting for the official pronouncement. After all,
Novell is still selling copies of Netware these days, no?…”

Some businesses don’t die at all, even when business logic
dictated that they should have. Take Apple for instance
(cue
dirty looks and curses from the Mac community…) Seriously now;
every prognosticator alive at the time of Steve Job’s first
dethroning predicted the death of Apple. Indeed- Apple’s market
share was dropping, and it dropped at an even steeper rate later at
the hands of Windows as Microsoft climbed to the top. Everyone who
was not an Apple employee (and probably many Apple employees as
well) said that Apple was a goner at that time. Yet here sits the
G4 processor – arguably among the most powerful CPUs alive in the
business world today – and those cutesy little iMacs and iBooks
that keep getting sold in record numbers….”

“So take heart, my fellow flightless friends – we will certainly
win, but you should know that the road to Open Source victory will
be just a bit longer than was originally thought.”
