“When you open GIMP for the first time you might wonder what
all the fuss is about. “There’s nothing here!” “Better than
Photoshop, my rear!” After all, all you see is the basic toolbox.
No work space, no cool filters, no nothing. Well, there’s quite a
bit to it if you know where to look.“

“Most of your options are accessed by double clicking the
various tools. For instance, double click one of the selection
tools and you get the feather option (very useful) as well as a
couple of others. Double click the gradient tool and you get
different modes, gradient types and all kinds of other useful
stuff. Double click the foreground or background color to change
colors. Almost every tool has a set of options that will greatly
increase your creativity.”

“Starting a new masterpiece is a nice straightforward file |
new. A dialog box will open where you can choose the size, fill
type, etc. You can change the default 256 x 256 pixels in file |
preferences if you wish. Make your choices, click OK and you’re
cooking.”
