Today, SuSE Linux, released an update for SuSE Linux Enterprise
Server 7. The latest technology for SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7
is now available as FTP download or on CD, enabling companies to
benefit of the latest innovations in Linux development.

Within the scope of the system maintenance of SuSE Linux
Enterprise Server, SuSE provides the following new features for the
32-bit architecture (x86) of AMD and Intel:

  • Optimized kernel 2.4.18 with support for Intel’s new Foster
hardware and many drivers for the latest RAID, SCSI, and network
    devices
  • Samba 2.2.4 with a central print spooling system for setting up
a file and print server for Windows clients
  • As a file and print server, Netatalk 1.5.1.1 now also supports
    MAC OS X
  • Apache 1.3.24 with additional HTTP/web server
    functionalities
  • mtx tape driver enables backups with multiple tape drives
  • FreeSWAN 1.95 provides additional security

The company also announced the planned release of Pro-Office CD.
The Pro-Office CD features the latest version of Sun Microsystems’
StarOffice, the newest edition of the ultimate desktop environment
KDE 3.0.1, as well as important patches for the SuSE Linux 8.0
operating system.

One of the new features in StarOffice 6.0 is the integrated
support of TrueType fonts with adapted metrics. All document
formatting is preserved, regardless of the application used. For
finance and accounting, StarOffice Calc now offers a functionality
corresponding to Microsoft Excel.

The default use of XML file formats for saving documents
accelerates office operations. Tools and applications for
processing XML can be ported without limitations to the contents
generated with StarOffice. The compression method is also based on
industry standards. Small file sizes guarantee moderate use of
storage resources and short loading times.

Users of SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 can receive the updates
by way of a password-protected Internet area or on CD within the
scope of the SuSE Linux Enterprise Server Update Service. Prices
for SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7, which include 12 months of
system maintenance start at $599 US.

SuSE Linux Pro-Office will be available June 24th, at SuSE’s web
shop: store.suse.com for $24.95 US.
