“Brief Intro to S/390 architecture How it runs a Certified
UNIX implementation”
“Hello, my name is Mike Eschman. I work for Engima Inc., a
software and hardware prototyping shop in New Orleans. We work with
custom embedded units built around GPS, spread spectrum and FM, GPS
and the Motorola 68332 processor, Linux, NT and S/390. Engima has
been running S/390 UNIX for four years, across just under a dozen
releases through OS/390 R2V9. Here is a brief introduction to that
world and some links that may prove useful.”
“Before delving into the particulars, I would like to make some
comments about our experience with the S/390 platform, its
strengths and its canker sores. For the record, we are anxious to
port to Linux on S/390, as that will be easier for us working
stiffs (one less OS to deal with).”
“The Linux distributions are NOT UNIX certified, only OS/390 is
UNIX certified. This article will discuss how OS/390 UNIX Services
work.”
