“We’re in the midst of preparing for the LinuxCanada Expo in
Toronto next week and haven’t had much time to work on this report,
so it will unfortunately be pretty light. We also probably won’t be
doing a report next week, as our booth won’t have an internet
connection. We’ll report on everything on May 22.”
“Georges Khaznadar has produced a couple of programs for
science: Units-filter–Units-Filter is a lightweight stand-alone
application written with C, flex and bison. It enables one to match
a student’s answer with a model made of a numerical value plus a
physical unit. Currently recognized are the SI units and some other
units listed in the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics. As an
example, it can match ‘5.0e3 mWb/s’ against ‘5 V’ (both notations
are equivalent). …”
“Emilio Gerardo Milian has just held the first meeting of the
Linux class at South San Francisco Adult Education. He cautions us
to, “Remember this is a Windows NT class to which I am introducing
Linux for the first time.” A hand count showed that 6 of the 25
students have already installed Linux on their PC at home. Emilio
continues, “Again, I wish to emphasize that in 4 weeks we will only
scratch the surface regarding the learning of Linux, you must
signup for the On-Line course which has 16 lessons in order to
learn more about it. Refer to the links on the class web pages for
your guidance:
