SEUL.org: Linux in education report #21 for June 5

Red Escolar, the Mexican initiative to put Linux in all the
schools in the country, has been busy. Here’s a report from Arturo
Espinosa Aldama
from May 26:”

“This week, there have been more interesting happenings. We
released a new version of the CD, 1.0-12, with all the services
tested. We updated the software to GNOME 1.2, which comes with an
almost complete Spanish translation (a contrast with HelixCode
Preview 1), and Netscape 4.73, which also comes translated to
Spanish. We included in the /images directory a floppy to make NFS
installations, and we erased spare or duplicated packages, reducing
the CD’s size to 361 Mb. And, as usual, we deleted more details and
did corrections that we had left unattended….”

“Andre Muller wrote a report on Linux in South African schools
for LinuxUser, a South African website. This report lists a number
of links we hadn’t known about before, giving us a very interesting
view of Linux in education in South Africa.”
