“The consolidated gradebook program Grader seems to be
progressing nicely, with people actively discussing it and signing
on to help out. They are always looking for help, so if you’re
interested in contributing get in touch with them.”
“Since that effort seems to be off to a good start, a number of
people at SEUL/edu who have be working separately on testing and
quizzing applications for Linux are talking about how they can
combine their programs and efforts in a similar way to produce a
polished application that can be used in many ways. We expect this
discussion to take off in the near future with a spate of new
coding.”
“Roger Dingledine mentioned that although we’re finding a number
of interesting applications for education, many of them are only
available as source tarballs. They would have to be available as
binary packages too to make it easier to persuade inexperienced
users to install them and try them out. Since we have peolpe from
Mandrake and Debian Jr. on our mailing list, we decided to see
about getting some help in creating RPMs and DEBs of as many of the
programs we’ve encountered as we can. At the moment both distros
are occupied with selecting and packaging the apps they’ve already
found, but both were quite interested in the idea. We expect to
have a repository of binary educational packages in the near
future.”
