“Although it won’t announce the news with any fanfare, IBM will
be ‘refreshing’ the client version of its OS/2 operating
system…

The refreshed OS/2 client, dubbed a ‘convenience pack,’ will be
based on the Warp Server for e-Business (WSeB) code base, but will
add little new functionality. While the client will include feature
enhancements that have been rolled out in IBM’s frequent Fix Packs
over the years (such as DVD and USB support, Java 1.1.8, Netscape
Navigator 4.6.1, and loads of additional device drivers), this is
essentially a feature rollup, bringing all the updates onto one
CD-ROM.”

“This client refresh is part of IBM’s internal plans to
support and enhance the OS/2 product line for at least seven more
years, according to sources. This support is based on past sales
performance, not philanthropy.”
