“Upon first booting Mepis, I was greeted by what appears to be
becoming the de facto splash screen for live cd distros.

“Passing no parameters to the kernel, I continued booting. One
thing that caught my eye was a line that read ‘loading Mepis file
system.’ This is not a file system that I’m familiar with, and am
curious to look into it further.

“The graphical login is fairly standard. I chose to login as
root using username/password root/root. I am a big fan of KDE so I
chose that as my window manager over IceWM. I was then greeted with
a KDE dekstop with a few extra buttons/features I will
explore…”
