Open Source Alternatives to Microsoft Outlook and Exchange

NUREMBERG, Germany, December 2, 2009 – Open-Xchange, the leading
provider of business-class open source collaboration software,
announced today the availability of a free connector for Mozilla
Thunderbird, the cross-platform e-mail and news client developed by
the Mozilla Foundation.

The “Community OXtender for Thunderbird” software connector gives
users full access to appointments and contacts stored in the
Open-Xchange Server and enables them to use Thunderbird as a rich
PIM (Personal Information Management) client to access data online
and offline. The software packages and documentation are available
at www.open-xchange.com/oxpedia#ThunderbirdOXtender.

“Mozilla Thunderbird and Open-Xchange are a great open source
alternative to Microsoft Outlook and Exchange,” said Rafael Laguna,
CEO of Open-Xchange. “The availability of this OXtender lowers
costs and will be attractive to educational institutions, public
administrations, as well as businesses.”

The “Community OXtender for Thunderbird” is developed and
maintained by Open-Xchange Business Partner Fusionworkx. For more
information, visit the official “Community OXtender for
Thunderbird” project page, www.thunderbird-oxtender.com.

The Thunderbird client software helps individuals manage their
online interactions — whether e-mail, instant messaging, social
networking messages, or other types of messages.

The Open-Xchange groupware resides on the server and provides
e-mail, calendar, contact, document and task management in an
integrated application. Open-Xchange makes communication easier and
teamwork more efficient.
