I remember that my journey with Ubuntu started two years later after Mark Shuttleworth's initial announcement, with the Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake) release, which was stable enough to be used in production environments. Since then, I've used every Ubuntu version, and I even have many of those nice CDs that several releases came with. 12 years later and with 25 releases later, Ubuntu is currently one of the most used Linux-based operating systems in the world on desktops, servers, and cloud. The latest release, Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) was announced only a week ago, on October 13, 2016, and it ships with dozens of up-to-date GNU/Linux technologies and Open Source software applications.
