“Expanding its Linux grasp into the applications sphere, Red Hat
announced Monday it has acquired Linux tools vendor Cygnus
Solutions. And in the opening keynote here at LINUX Business Expo,
Red Hat Chairman Bob Young explained that consumer interest doesn’t
stop with the operating system.”
“No one buys operating systems – people buy applications,”
Young said. And with the Cygnus acquisition, “a complete
open-source suite can now be offered.“
“Said Young: “Cygnus’ vision about Open Source was well ahead of
its time.” Cygnus, which makes software development tools for
Linux, gives Red Hat a more comprehensive portfolio of
open-source-based software.”
