“Red Hat… is believed to be on the prowl for companies
that would add service, support and applications to its product
offerings.”
“A chief quarry in that hunt is believed to be Linuxcare, the
Linux services and technical support company.
“”Actually, they came to talk to us,” said Arthur Tyde, senior
vice president at Linuxcare, which supplies Linux support to Cisco
Systems, the Gap and Wells Fargo Bank, among others. “In following
up on our side, there didn’t seem to be a fit.”
“Red Hat also might seek an applications vendor to increase
Linux’s appeal to desktop users, industry sources said. Corel, an
Ottawa firm, owns WordPerfect and is working on an office suite for
release next year.”
