"Novell chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt unveiled new products aimed at taming the dispersed and disparate nature of the Internet during his keynote address at Comdex... Novell Directory Services eDirectory and NDS Corporate Edition offers a cross-platform LDAP implementation with a unified administrative interface."

"NDS eDirectory offers the ability to drill down and share an NDS directory over LDAP with other organizations. Novell technicians demonstrated edge-to-edge connectivity between two fictitious e-businesses wishing to share user identities between their sites. They were able to authenticate users, granting single log-on for local and remote access, using NDS eDirectory services. The demo took place on NetWare and Linux boxes. Schmidt also announced availability for Solaris and Windows NT platforms, and when Windows 2000 ships, Active Directory will also be supported."

"During a press conference immediately following his presentation, Schmidt and executives from Sun Microsystems, BroadVision, Lucent, Xircom, Oblix, Alta Vista and integrator Whittman-Hart were on-hand to discuss the way that they are implementing eDirectory and their partnerships with Novell."
