"Kevin Kelly's book New Rules for the New Economy, published in 1998 and recently out in paperback, serves as a concise guide to the new era of business, at a time when the old rules of business are being forced to undergo a major rewrite. His seemingly counterintuitive prescriptions -- one chapter is titled "Follow the Free" -- don't explicitly speak of open source, but the open source approach to business and economics pervades his book."
"Kelly, 47, is a writer, editor, interviewer, speaker, and business consultant. He was editor of Co-Evolution Quarterly (published by the people who publish the Whole Earth Catalog) from 1984 to 1990, which at the time provided some of the best advice on new technology to be found anywhere. As executive editor at Wired during its heyday, he provided a creative spark that gave the magazine its quirky charm. His first book, Out of Control, focused on the science of complexity and interrelationship between biological systems and man-made technology. His current project is aiding some renegades in building a mechanical-digital clock that will tick for 10,000 years."
"Kelly spoke with Russ Mitchell, editor in chief of Wide Open News, to discuss open source systems."
