Re-Imagining Linux Platforms to Meet the Needs of Cloud Service Providers
"Support for the open-source Linux operating system is
increasing among midrange distributors.
Hall-Mark Global Solutions, Tempe, Ariz., will offer two bundled
solutions that pair Linux software from Red Hat Inc. with servers
from Compaq Computer Corp. Also, Arrow North American Computer
Products has become the primary distributor of the OpenLinux
e-Server 2.3 NOS from Caldera Systems Inc."
"Red Hat expects similar bundles from other distributors in the
near future, said Theresa Spangler, director of marketing and sales
programs at Red Hat, Research Triangle Park, N.C.
For its part, Orem, Utah-based Caldera aims to leverage the six
distribution arms of Arrow North American, Greenville, S.C.,
including Arrow Industrial Computer Products, Consan Inc.,
Gates/Arrow Distributing, Microtronica, SBM Inc. and Support Net.
Demand for Linux-based products has prompted systems vendors IBM
Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co. to dedicate resources to the
platform, said Mike Long, president of Arrow North American."
