"Through a number of partnerships and spinoffs, Ottawa-based Corel, a Linux applications developer, is implementing a plan that will refocus its efforts and financial resources on core activities such as its Linux products, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)."

"Part of that plan outlined in the recent filing is the possible spin-off of activities that are not in Corel's core interests or that could be outsourced. The sale of minority investments is also an option Corel is keeping in reserve. In the document, the company admits that this is not a panacea and probably will not result in immediate monetary results."
