"Despite the gloom in the tech sector, Red Hat managers said they were upbeat because Red Hat is a leading distributor of the Linux operating system, which is seen as an alternative to Microsoft Corp.'s Windows. Unlike Windows, the Linux system's code is "open" or widely available to software designers and programmers to use."
"Against a backdrop of negative news in the tech sector over the past 60 days, I'm pleased to report to all of you today that demand for Red Hat solutions .... continues to increase," Matthew Szulik, Red Hat president and chief executive, told analysts during a conference call."
"The management believes that Red Hat will not be adversely affected by the slowdown in sales reported by many computer hardware manufacturers," he said."
