SlashTCO.com: Opnix save a packet with complete Linux solution

"Opnix is a privately held, venture-backed, Arizona based company. Opnix's proprietary Best Path Global Transit technology continuously monitors all global Internet routes and determines the "best path" accounting for factors such as latency, packet loss, router hops, NAPs, bandwidth cost etc. Since optimizing core Internet routing is a 24x7 job, the most important prerequisite for the company's network was reliability - this prompted the use of a complete Linux solution as the basis for its network infrastructure."

"Opnix, which was formed in 1999, also needed to customise its network for its highly specialised needs. As the Linux source code is fully available it can be modified, added to, or stripped down to suit individual business requirements. A proprietary solution would not have allowed Opnix anywhere near this level of flexibility. Opnix currently use Linux as a web, mail, file and print server. It is also used on many of the company's desktops."

"Additionally, Opnix uses Open Source technologies for its database and data storage. "At Opnix, we believe strongly in open source tools and applications," said Jiva DeVoe, Opnix VP of Software Development and Chairman of the Phoenix Linux Users Group. "They are free to use, can be customised easily and allow many eyes to examine the code and fix problems right away."
