"Opnix is a privately held, venture-backed, Arizona based
company. Opnix's proprietary Best Path Global Transit technology
continuously monitors all global Internet routes and determines the
"best path" accounting for factors such as latency, packet loss,
router hops, NAPs, bandwidth cost etc. Since optimizing core
Internet routing is a 24x7 job, the most important prerequisite for
the company's network was reliability - this prompted the use of a
complete Linux solution as the basis for its network
"Opnix, which was formed in 1999, also needed to customise its
network for its highly specialised needs. As the Linux source code
is fully available it can be modified, added to, or stripped down
to suit individual business requirements. A proprietary solution
would not have allowed Opnix anywhere near this level of
flexibility. Opnix currently use Linux as a web, mail, file and
print server. It is also used on many of the company's

source tools and applications," said Jiva DeVoe, Opnix VP of
Software Development and Chairman of the Phoenix Linux Users Group.
