Re-Imagining Linux Platforms to Meet the Needs of Cloud Service Providers
"The bets are on extensible markup language (XML) and open
source software (OSS) as the Infocomm Development Authority of
Singapore unveiled its 'long-term' perspective of the infocomm
landscape for the next five years--from 2003 to 2007.
"Speaking at the Fourth Infocomm Technology Roadmap Seminar,
Brian Chen (left), chief technology officer of IDA, described XML
with the use of web services and OSS as the two tidal waves that
are expected to sweep the IT sector.
"'For a technology to take off, you need a lot of factors in
place--the industry players, the consumers, the standards... Today,
XML and OSS are undercurrents, but the winds are blowing in the
right direction,' he said..."
