"If you attend enough computer conferences, you run into every
occupation on Earth. At the MySQL Users Conference last week, I sat
next to a person at lunch who announced proudly that his job was to
destroy data. He works for a firm that specializes in data services
for law cases, and at the end of many cases the judge orders the
total destruction of data related to the case.
"On the other side of me, at that lunch, sat a database
administrator whose facility is planning a migration from Oracle to
MySQL. A few years ago, people might assume a site would start with
MySQL and move up to Oracle as its needs grew. Now there's a quiet
