ZDNet: Ian Murdock: Making Solaris More Like Linux

"Eight days into his tenure at Sun, newly minted Chief Operating Platforms Officer Ian Murdock took the stage at the SDForum event, 'Platform 2.0: The Next Generation' in Santa Clara. The founder of Linux distro Debian in 1993, Murdock made the jump to Sun and appears to be charged with making Sun's open source Solaris more appealing to the Linux crowd and beyond.

"Murdock's job involves increasing developer adoption of Sun technology, especially Solaris and related technologies, such as DTrace, at a time when Linux has dramatically better mindshare. Sun needs to get the early adopters back in its camp and 'synchronize' its platform strategy, Murdock said..."
