"Sun Microsystems on Thursday reported a second-quarter profit
of $260 million, or 31 cents a share, a 94 percent increase from
the year-ago quarter when it earned $133 million, or 15 cents a
"Revenue in the quarter checked in at $3.61 billion, up slightly
from the $3.56 billion it recorded in the same period last year.
Gross margins for the quarter came in at 48.5 percent, up from 45
percent a year ago.
"Analysts had been expecting, on average, earnings of 30 cents a
share, on $3.59 billion in revenue, so Sun slightly edged out both
revenue and earnings estimates..."
