"While OpenShift is a Red Hat technology, Roth said that the
system could also one day run an OpenStack cloud. OpenStack is an
open source cloud platform originally started by NASA and
Rackspace, that now has more than 90 member companies.
One criticism that Red Hat initially faced about OpenShift was
that the platform was not open source. Roth noted that today the
OpenShift service is based on open source technologies. He added
that Red Hat is also contributing code back to the upstream
projects on which OpenShift is based. There is not, however, an
open source version of the OpenShift service, yet.
