O'Reilly Open Source Convention coming back to Portland

"Open source technology might not be well-known to the casual computer user, but it powers an increasing number of sophisticated communications networks and mainstream devices such as TiVo. Unlike proprietary software from Microsoft and Apple, open source programs can be customized by users and are often free. That combination has given it legions of fans, including big corporations such as Google and IBM.

"This year, for the first time, the convention will feature tracks on government and health IT, reflecting the ever-larger role open source is playing in collaboration and cost-efficiency in these sectors. "
