Will Price announced on mac-crypto (mailing list) that PGP 6.5 will include "PGPnet", a complete IPSEC implementation for Windows and Macintosh platforms, with the usual freeware versions to follow. This, as well as tools like FreeS/WAN, allow secure and authenticated communications between Internet hosts without planning or preconfiguration. It sits at the IP layer, and thus is able to encrypt and authenticate *all* TCP/IP traffic regardless of application. This is a Very Good Thing. The more people run these things, the better.
