Tectonic: Cyber Sleuths Using Open Source to Track Criminals

"The Cybercrime Unit of the South African Police Services is increasingly using open source software in its pursuit of online and computer-using criminals. Speaking at the ForgeAhead eSecurity conference yesterday Beaunard Grobler, commander of the cybercrime unit, said the unit was increasingly using open source software in its work rooting out coriminals. 'We use, for example, a Knoppix Live CD configured with special tools to find and isolate child pornography. This way we can search for the material in just a few minutes... and still preserve the integrity of the original evidence,' said Grobler..."
