Cy Guy pointed us to Linus' recent announcement that the Linux kernel will go into a feature freeze for 2.4 in about two weeks.

Jens Axboe has created a small page where people can follow the CD-ROM developments and try out the patches. It is unlikely that the DVD and CD-R(W) changes are going to make it in for this release.

Looks like Joe Pranevich's statements about the timing of the 2.4 release might turn out to be accurate.
